Where do the three wires hook to that are involved in changing the points and condenser. (1) goes to the coil (1) goes to the grounding tab (1) goes to the condenser. do these all hook together or does the coil wire hook to ground,

polarity and John are saying the same thing. To clarify, what was not said, and you may already know, is that the kill wire attaches to the outside of the distributor, on the same lug that the two inside wires attach to.

the coil is grounded with two set screws from the outside of the case. the 3 wires all go together. the coil, the condenser, and the kill wire all go on the screw that holds the point spring onto the tab. make sure none of the wires touch the case.

I appreciate all the response I have gotten on this. The Magneto is installed with all wires hooked together on the common screw. It will not hit a lick and I have the timing marks correct. The only thing I have done is remove the old points and condenser and install the new ones. While the engine is spinning there is fire at the plugs. Like I say it will not hit a lick. It is driving me crazy.

If you have fire at the plugs, it cannot be timed properly. Either that or the gas is shutoff or plugged with ice.

Keep the ground lug disconnected to see if it's shorting it out with coil and condenser wire hooked on the points terminal screw to see if you have fire then. Those insulated washers and bushing can crack letting it short out. Make sure the coil wire isn't cracked or bad leaking. Fairbanks Morse? Check the links out here and the fundamentals of magnetos 60 some page booklet online.

Thanks for the responses. The wire coming from the coil reads to ground. With the wire coming from the coil hooked with the common screw, the moving part of the points alsays read to ground. Is this correct? I had all three wires tied together and it would not hit a lick. I know I have the timing in the correct positions. These are new points and concenser and the gap is.20

Did you try some method, such as shown in attachment, to confirm that the mag generates no spark at the mid-cap, end-cap or wire stage?

Mike, you have to have a good ohm meter and set at the low ohms range to accurately read the coils primary winding ohms, cuz it may be like 1 or less ohms and a cheap meter would simply still show that as a near short 0 ohms resistance.

I forgot if it uses an external kill switch thats another third wire that attaches to the points, coil wire,,,,condensor wire,,,,,kill switch wire

Im NOT familiar with that tractor whatsoever, however I can tell you this: In a typical magneto the coils low voltage primary winding (has two wires coming out of it) indeed has a ground connection which represents one end of the low voltage low resistance primary coil/winding....The other end of that coil primary winding connects to the points PLUS the condensor also connects to the points. Theres two connections on the points, one end of the coils primary and the condensor.
