Can anyone tell me how to tell if my engine comprestion is not right on my Allis Chalmers Model B? I bought the tractor with the engine seized and now have the motor working but i beleive thier to be no compresion. i have stuck me finger over the spark pug hole and it seems to be a very faint push of air when the engine is rolled over.

Worked on one with the same problem. Stuck rings. Started it and it smoked some and burnt some oil but after time the
compression got better and no more smoke.

Many times just running the engine will free the rings if that is the problem with your engine.

Depending on the B early or late if could be a low compression engine. But either way how did you get it unlocked?? You should probably fill the cylinders with ATF and let it sit a few days. Then turn it over, plug out and then check compression. If it does not come up then pull the valve cover and make sure you do not have stuck valves

you need to pour a thinned down transmission fluid, or penetrant in each cylinder and let it set a few days to soak in around the rings. then crank it over and blow it out the spark plug holes. take off the valve cover as the guys said and see that all the valves are seating and push rods not bent. then get a compression gauge and hose at auto store, screw into each plug hole and crank a few revolutions. you need over 80 psi to start. should have about 100 psi on a good motor.

Have you had the valve-cover off and looked to see that there are no stuck valves..??

It would be a good idea to and lubricate the machinery under there--including the valve-stems..
