Just Finished the Overhaul

Well, I just finished overhauling the motor on my 1954 WD-45. Now what? What do you all do for break-in after the overhaul? I don't have a way to do much work with it (I live in town, not on a farm). Should I pay the local implement dealer to run it in on his dyno?

I'm with Drawbar419.
I run cheap 20w for about 5 hours without any serious work, then change to my good oil after that. Like to get any missed crumbs out soon.

If you can make it snort up and down some hills in high gear toward the end of your run in periord, it is as good as a drawbar load.

Phil, There is one way a city slicker can break -in a 1954 WD45...
First things first: don't do this break-in on a busy highway or interstate; OK.
Second: borrow your mother-in-laws Buick.
Third: get one of your buddies to come over with a tow chain.
Now, chain the Buick behind the Allis and have your buddy steer the Buick. For the first five miles, just have the parking brake on the Buick set to produce a light drag. For the next five miles, tighten up the parking brake a little more.. For the Third five mile stretch,, have your buddy ride the brakes and make the Allis snort once a while..Be sure to thank your mother-in-law for the use of the Buick...
If the Buick isn't available, any old junker with operating brakes will do..

Breaking in on a Dyno is the beat way. Normally the tractor is run about 30 mins at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 rated PTO HP. During these runs the dyno operator will pulse the load up above the HP he is pulling atthe time to load the rings in the cylinders.

Let it have some idle time and light work for a while before you beat on it. Check for proper operating temp, oil psi, and any unusual noises. Make sure you can turn it over with the crank without any drag on the crank shaft as this was sometimes a problem. Run regular cheap motor oil the first time so anything tight has a better chance to conform to proper specs. Most of all take your time.
