Energy Cell???

I saw an old post mentioning nos energy cells. Are they talking about a battery? Must be from north of the border, I 'spect.

Energy cells were used on many earlier diesel engines; they were a small [replaceable]chamber in the cylinder head that the injector sprayed fuel into. It was called a Lanova system, presumably after the designer of this combustion chamber. The chamber served to control the rate of combustion and maximize turbulence, it also cut down on Diesel 'knock'.
Most newer engines are Direct injection, and the tubulence chambers are built into the piston, plus injectors and pumps are much more sophisticated now.
Among the brands that used the Lanova system were Allis Chalmers, Oliver, Case, Minneapolis Moline, and I think Massey Harris.

Great info, thanks. Are those the same thing Ive heard some mechanics call "pre fire chambers" ????
