C clutch problem

I have an allis c that I have been working on and off with. The clutch rod from pedal to throwout arm was broken off. I welded on a new section but I don"t know exactly how long the total rod should be. It will disengage but it is very stiff pedal and it will grind gears until you get it into a gear then you can move to any gear with no problem. I am not sure if it is a clutch rod length problem or something else. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Scott.

Sounds like the throw out bearing is stiff , the pilot bushing is draging ,or the trans just needs to spin down.
