ac 200 amp meter always charging.

rebuilt alternator two years ago. is producing

14.4 volts DC. installed new voltage regulator.

is always showing 15 - 20 amps. did not do so

before. batteries are full of water and crank

aok. amp guage is 2 years old. what should i look

at next ?

Make sure the ground wire on the regulator goes to a good ground and not just to the hood.

if the battery is low, charging at 20 amps is o.k. after about 10-15 minutes it should be down to 5 amps. if it stays at 20 amps too long, you will boil the battery dry. if the battery is low, charge it up. if it is charged, then the voltage regulator is bad.--- make sure your terminals are good and good ground.

If your voltage holds at 14.4 volts, I wouldn't do anything. I had one do that and it eventually came down when the battery was fully charged but it took a while.
