Heres the Story or the 450 1958 Farmall 450 My grandpa, Enoch Olson bought this 450 new in early 1959 from the Handel Implement dealer in Chadwick, IL. The 60 series IH was already coming out. It was sold at his sale in Jan. of 1963 to my Great Great Uncle Joe Olson. He then moved to Pinckneyville, IL. Later He moved to Conant and started farming again. In about 1974 or 1975 he decided to buy the 450 back from my uncle, David Keller. Grandpa had it hauled down here. Over time many changes were done to the tractor by him. When he bought it back the tractor had been converted to LP. The original sheet metal had been cut to fit a LP tank. Grandpa could only find sheet metal for a diesel. He had the exhaust holes on the diesel hood welded shut and put new holes on the opposite side for the gas exhaust. Grandpa cut the sheet metal down by were the hydraulic fluid filler hole so a funnel would fit better. Grandpa took the standard draw bar off and put a 2 point fast hitch on. He also put the aftermarket TSC wide front on it. On June 20, 2011 I was going to Carbondale, IL when I passed by Norman Fred Truck Service in Murphysboro, IL when I saw a 450 sitting out front. Most IH guys just think that’s a 450 it was made 56-58, 4 bottom plow tractor, could of came with a fast hitch etc. Well this one I knew was different, the aftermarket front end stuck out. I called dad and told him about it. I decided to turn around then instead of later. He told me what to look for. First I looked at the hydraulic fluid filler hole. The sheet metal was still cut for the funnel. He also told me there was a dent on the front of the grill. It had bondo but could still make it out. I knew instantly it was it.
