Johnathans Story of Survival | Hi, I'm Johnathan Deere. I am a 25-year-old JD 2040 diesel utility tractor. I have had a rocky 2, 700 hours of life. I was Purchased by Larry Gardner in 1977 for 22, 000 after being shipped from Germany as a special order. break in was good, and I had a wonderful 1623 hours with this wonderful owner (i still bear his name on my keys). After Larry died in 1999, I was devastated. I thought I would never have another operator like this one. I had only been operated by this gentlemen. Over the next two years, I was operated by several farm hands hired by my sister, Dana (Human, not tractor. I have just become part of the family), I haven't even had my oil changed in that amount of time!. It pisses me off!In late 2000, I met Steven Wood, my future operator. This man operated me like I was a being of intelligence, not just a piece of German Excellence in design. but, this man just did his job. It was his son, Steven D. Wood, who noticed my capabilities and realized my means. This 13-year-old treats me, not as a nescessity, but as a piece of art with intellegence. It almost seems like me and him have some sort of telopathic connection. he knows when I am about to cease, and ceases me to operate before there is a problem. He is the first owner I have had in Forever that has treated me like this. I have had my oil changed, and will be completely overhauled at 3000 hours by the same company that pulled me off the ship from Germany way back in 1977, John Deere. That is my story, and living proof that, under all operating conditions, nothing runs like a Deere. Steven Wood, VA, entered 2002-08-18 My Email Address: Not Displayed |
