Remebering Green....Yesterday

I can still smell the morning dew on a small 5 acer field from the grass that was cut the night before,my great uncle, woke me up that morning after we had drove all the way from Texas to Missouri to visit,I was 4yrs old at the time, the sun was just starting to come up,I got dressed and headed outside with him,we walked side by side to an old lean-to where the 1953 model B john deere was parked,I stood back as he made some ajustments and hit the starter, the tractor roared to life at the lean-to started shakin from the old two-cylinder,my uncle backed it out and turned it to the field,he stopped and jumped off,i climbed into the seat as he stood on the draw bar,i was the happiest child around,he engaged the hand clutch and we headed out towards the field, that whole day was spent pulling a two bottom plow, over and over, from then on atleast twice a year I went to his house up till I was about 15,last year I got a phone call with bad news, they had to sell everything because he can down sick,i tried everything I could do to buy that tractor but before I could finish gathering the money the tractor was sold, and he was put into a retirement home, Now im 18yrs old I can still remeber my first time I got to drive that tractor as it was yesterday, about 6 months ago I bought my first john deere,a 1942 model b,just 2 months ago I got in restored and running,i still would like to find that 1953 john deere model B,it was last seen in the Jasper-Joplin Missouri area and was owned by my greatuncle Gordon Edwards,iv always loved john deere tractors and always will,i am now in the GlenRose TX antique tractor club and Granbury TX antique tractor club,i also sell toy tractors and metal signs,i will be at the GlenRose Expo center Febuary 13th and 14th for our tractor show,as far as my greatuncle he lives in Kansas city missouri and is not doing well at all,i hope and pray for the best,

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract. ... [Read Article]
