Younger Brother and the Farmall C

It was around 1974 I was 17 my younger brother was about 13. He could handle a tractor pretty good for his age. We had a Farmall C at the time but the starter went out the day befor and was in the shop getting repaired my brother was going to start disking the the field where we were going to plant corn. We parked the C at the top of a hill beside the barn over looking the plowed field so we could coast start it sence the starter was out. So I told my brother to put it in second gear push in the clutch turn on the ignition and release the brake let it get up a little speed and release the clutch all at once and it will start right up with no problem. Well he didnt do exactly as I told him he started down the hill before he got it in gear by then it wouldnt go in gear it just raked real bad. He wasnt quite strong enough to hold the brake peddle down hard enough to slow himself down he couldnt make the corner at the bottom of the hill and struck a large end post and broke the narrow front out from under the C luckily he walked away without a scratch about that time dad pulled up with the new starter and ill never forget the look on his face.
