Allis Chalmers Farming Memories | In the late 50s when I was 11 or 12 Daddy had a Allis Chalmers CA and WC. After I learned to drive, he would pull a JD 4 disc tiller with the WC and I would pull one with the CA to turn land. When I got a little older I would turn land with the WC while Daddy worked a public job. I remember the WC had hand brakes only, the seat was off center to the right and the tiller had a manual lift so when you turned to the left you would reach back and grab the rope to trip the tiller lift while turning the steering wheel to the left. This would throw you even further to the right away from the left brake handle. You would have to really stretch to reach the brake lever to help with the turn. Quite a struggle for a 13 or 14 year old kid. I thought I was in heaven in 61 when he traded both in on a new JD 2010 with power steering and hydraulic connections so we could use a hydraulic cylinder lift.
