Its not just a tractor
I grew up on a 1600 acre farm in northeastern North Carolina where my Dad had me driving tractors at a very young age about 5. He would start the old A john deere down the row in first gear and then jump off to help the crew cut cabbage which were thrown into a wagon behind the tractor. When I'd reach the end he would again jump on the tractor and make the turn around thus starting all over again. Well this point in my life had a profound effect on me. From that first time on I'd rather drive a tractor than do most anything else. Over the years that followed we had a large assortment of the mean greens come and go but the one that stayed the course of time was a 620 John Deere. When I was about 10 my Dad said I could use the 620 as my bicycle as the roads at that time were all dirt with a deep sand cover. Darn near impossible to ride a bike on. I used to drive that 620 everywhere,down to the river to go fishing, to the neighbors house to visit friends etc. Well the 620 was sold when my Dad took ill and gave up farming, that was over 25 years ago. I've since found and began to restore a 620 of my own. It has become a labor of love and memories.There is no music as sweet to my ears as the sound of that 2 cyclinder engine working under a heavy load. My Daddy is gone now but the memories of the simpilar times are still with me. I'm 45 now with a granddaughter of my own and when her pop pop becomes more than she can handle she'll get my hat and shoes and tell me tractor ride pop pop. She is almost 3. lol I'm no longer involved in farming but I own a 5 acre homeplace with a half mile long drive. We do some bush hogging and some road grading so my 620 doesn't get used hard as it once was but when you need that little extra power its always there. My mother to this day gets a twinkle in her eye to watch that old 620 do her stuff, (found out recently that she and Dad used to go on moonlight tractor rides) And just so you know my wife of 20 years thinks my tractors sexy. Other guys can have their mid life crsis cars or their harleys but nothing starts my heart to hummin like the thumping of my old john deere.
