Salesman | In about 1970, my grandad told me a story that happened in the 1920s or so. He was just a small farmer, farming with mules in the cotton country of West Texas, when one day an old model T pulled in, with a salesman. He was trying to sell subscriptions to the American Farmer, or Farmer Stockman Magazene, I can't remember which one. My grandad said that he appreciated him coming by and all, but just couldn't afford it. The old boy said his goodbyes and left. It wasn't two hours later that my grandad saw him coming down the road on foot, and told him that he got his car stuck a couple of miles down the road. My grandad hiched up the team and went to pull him out. The salesman thanked him, and was on his way. He told me that a couple of months went by, and he recieved a copy of the magezene, and the copys came regularly until his death in 1973. I used to look forward as a kid to looking at them when they came, and will never forget that story. I guess the salesman is long gone by now too, but sure would have liked to talk to him and see if he remembered that event so long ago. I can think of a few common, ordinary sounds in my daily life, too.
