New Threshing Machine

From back in the twenties, my grandfather told this story about some sort of tractor mounted threshing machine he bought new. It came from, I think Chicago, to eastern Ohio by rail. He had never seen one, only read about them. After getting the pile of parts back to our farm he started fitting pieces together best he could, since there were no assembly instructions. His tractor he was mounting it on was a Fordson. Well as he was putting on the last parts, he found instructions wired to that last part. Isn’t that the way things generally go?PWell he got it done in time for the wheat harvest. Our farm had the Penn Central Rail Road going through the bottom fields. Now this machine is shiny new and he takes it to the field to try out. Problem was as he crossed the elevated RR crossing, the Fordson-thresher got high-sided on the tracks. It wouldn’t go forward or backward. A train is coming. Grandfather ran toward the train waving his arms trying to stop the train, to no avail. The high speed train smashed into the new, never been used threshing machine and tractor, blowing them to bits.
