| Mystery water |
One hot summer day I was going to start my 4020 gas but it would only turn over real slow. Thinking that it had a low battery I let it be. Sometime later for some reason I checked the oil to discover that there was water all the way to the top of the dipstick. Checking the coolant revealed that the level was close to being full. So I decided to drain the oil. In doing so out gushed enough water & oil to nearly fill the 5 gal bucket. The crankcase should have 8 qts plus 1 for the filter. In amazement I just let it drained and took off to the dealer. They seemed to think someone filled it with water, but added that if I changed filter & oil it may be okay. Getting back to the shed to where it was parked I noticed the rain cap was stuck open. And there appeared to be a leak from the roof that guttered down into the exhaust. Two inches either way would have avoiled this apparent downpour.So I surmised that this is what happened. This occured about 20 years ago with no apparent harm to the engine.
