  • Jim that was an incredible article. Outstanding photos and I really liked the videos at the end. I am surprised you had problems with the ring compressor. I have a near identical one from Sears and easily installed 4 pistons in my Farmall H in a short period of time. Thanks for spending the time documenting your rebuild!!!!!

  • I have really enjoyed reading this series! If I was to ever get around to refurbishing the old Farmall 560, I would probably have as many or even more trying moments than you have, and this is just an old gas engine. Great job, and I can't wait to see the end result.

  • I haven't enjoyed an article this much in a long time. It was a great combination of narrative comments and nice high resolution photos. I especially enjoyed the admitted lack of experience and how he struggled through each obstacle to get to his final reward of a finely working piece of machinery. It must have been rewarding to hear the sound of that engine the first time it fired up. Great job Jim.

  • Jim, this is pretty scary stuff here. We as antique tractor people have crossed the line into the digital medium. This is a giant leap from adjustable wrenchs and pliers to digital. Most of us use part books, neighbors, and instinct to fix our equipment. You have gone where no shade-tree mechanic has gone before. Excellent presentation.   • Good article. Having been mechanic for over 20 years and having had the job of rebuilding one of those engines that someone elso pulled apart, I had a few laughs at it. But please, have someone teach you how to use a tension wrench properly. one hand pulling, the other stabilising the socket end. And keep the extension length to a minimum) Well done!
