  • Thank you for such a creative story. I just lost my Dad on December 2, and I know how you miss your Dad. A story like this is a tribute to the men who made our country great.
David Lewis wrote on Saturday, February 03, 2001 (PST):
  • Nice idea to tell the same story we've all lived, but from the tractor's point of view. Thank you.
"Country" Elliott Domans wrote on Saturday, February 03, 2001 (PST):
  • GREAT JOB JOHN !!! I hope my Farmall M tells the same type of story to the other tractors when they get together here at the Tennessee antique tractor shows !
Patrick C. Potter wrote on Saturday, February 03, 2001 (PST):
  • I thought this was very neat story and (I almost don't want to say it but cute also). It gives me the courage to keep on working on the tractor that I have of my dads that he got before he was killed at work one day. The tractor I have of my dads is a Ford 851 or 800 series. I've been working on it off and on for several years, mainly just keeping it running with future plans in mind. I like this story very much, it has got to be probably the best one I've ever read, I love the way it written.

  • Enjoyed the article. I bought a new M Dec 24,1947. Today the M is my muscles with a 33 IHC Power Loader. I have added over the years, Live Hydraulics, power steering, Live clutch. three point hitch.

  • That was a GREAT STORY!! It made me think of the old tractors I grew up with. Some of them had much more exciting times that "M" did,...backing into a ditch, unexpectedly, getting stuck, badly, out-pulling other tractors. Good job. Please write more.

Justin wrote on Wednesday, February 07, 2001 (PST):
  • Good story. I am sure my M feels the same way. It sat in the shed by our silos for 12 years. But it is getting restored, and it is also a 1941 model. Serial No.35,732.
John Woodward wrote on Thursday, February 08, 2001 (PST):
  • Good job on the story. Interesting perspective. Makes the rest of us think of the old iron we left around.
Hank Calonkey aka IHank wrote on Sunday, February 11, 2001 (PST):
  • Keep up the good write ups! You sorta "grabbed me" with this one, 'cuz I'm trying to get a '57 Farmall 450 back in good running condition. Thank you much, IHank
MJD wrote on Sunday, February 11, 2001 (PST):
  • Great story....wish they all could have something to say. We use and abuse, then some of the good old machines get their looks renewed. Hopefully, we can preserve many of them. They have made our livlihood...Great Farmalls - one and all !!
ellen wrote on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 (PST):
  • What a wonderful story in a style so similar to Teri B's "Farmer's Wife" articles in Yesterday's Tractors. This would be a great article to read (or perform) for 4H kids/adults who love tractors and would enjoy bringing one of these wonderful machines to life!
Scott Hetzel wrote on Thursday, February 15, 2001 (PST):
  • Very nice artical, hope my kids feel the same way someday. We have already restored four tractors.I does really make a person feel good when you bring old iron back to life whether it's yours or someone else's.
Mike Purcell wrote on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 (PST):
  • Very cute article. Great imagination. I tend to be a bit critical of others writing but this was very neat. I really enjoyed it and read it to my kids. Thanks too for the great picture at the top. Would love to see more like this if you have access to any. If you haven't already read it, look for my article called "Uncle Cecil's Super A Lives Again". Think you may enjoy it also.

  • I would like to thank everyone for the nice comments and emails Ive received.I have a few more ideas and adventure of M so if you really want me to do more let me know!
Gene Beals wrote on Sunday, February 25, 2001 (PST):
  • Your story is very interesting, you might think its funny but i always wondered what i piece of equipment or tractor would say if they could talk. My father and I restore JD tractors and equipment together, we currently have 22 tractors at the present time, and I always am concerned aboiut what will happen when my father passes away. I dont know what i will do without him.

  • very cool story.
Rusty Jones wrote on Thursday, December 11, 2003 (PST):
  • That story about the old tractor, and its restoration, kinda brings a tear to the eye! How many other faithful old tractors are there out there, sitting behint th' barn, rusting away, patiently waiting for some person to come along, see their worth, and yank them out of the brambles, take them home, and restore them to their former glory! Rusty Jones
Don C wrote on Thursday, December 11, 2003 (PST):
  • I really do not think anybody could have said it better than a 41 M! Thanks so much for bringing it to life like you did! Also, I really don't think you should stop with just that story, come on now! We all can't wait to hear the next one! Don C in MN.

  • Great story. very literate M...hehehe. Thanks again. Your daddy would be proud!
Rich wrote on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 (PST):
  • I thought the story was a very interesting twist. I often think of who owned the old tractors that I have restored. The excitement of bringing it home, the disappointment when it won't start. It was a real joy reading your story.
Tadeu D´Avila wrote on Monday, February 02, 2004 (PST):

  • That was a great story, keep them coming. One note about the original owner of the M, he was no wimp. To start an M with a hand crank on a regular basis tokk a pretty good man.

Mervat wrote on Tuesday, January 01, 2013 (PST):
  • Hey Klaw, you bought on 8/14/09 and it died on 9/27/11? That's over 2 years. Why would you ecxept a pro-rata past the 2 year waranty?I bought mine in Jan 2008 and it is just now starting to die, so it has lasted well over the 2 year warranty. I've put 75k miles on my car since replacing driving in Las Vegas heat. You can't beat the price for performance. My wife's car has an Autozone battery that I have to replace every year and have for the last 5 years. They replace for free, but it is such a hassle.
Randy Hanshew wrote on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 (PDT):
  • That story of the old M was very well done. It was a tribute to the American farmer and the equipment they used to help feed the world. I'll make a copy of this great story for future use. Thanks.
