  • brian, what a wonderful article!! you won't believe this but we own a DOE!!! my husband bought her in fairview Pa. from an equipment dealer who was going through a divorce and had to sell her. Ben loved her and had to have her after he tested her out!! what a work horse! it's a 1965 i think and we just had the engines rebuilt and i'm going to restore the body on her to bring her back to original state!! we took her to our local tractor show and when that 28 foot long machine pulled on to main street all the people stopped to watch the majestic gal come down the road! what a sight to see! we think she's the only one in the states that is still together! if you know please email me and let me know . the guy we bought her from said there were only three sent to the states and that this one was the only one still intact. but we don't know for sure. we would love to talk with you as you have so much more knowledge on this then we do! we called Essex england and they said they had no info. e me when you can! again what a great article!! hope to see more from you.

  • Brian, ole chap A splendid article indeed. You have a tremendous wealth of working knowledge and history of the Fordson, County and Doe Triple D tractors. A Doe was exhibited at the LeSueur, Minnesota Pioneer Power Days show this past August of 1999. With the Doe mentioned in the other comments section that was purchased in Pennsylvania and my Doe we may have at least two of the three original Doe's Dual Drive tractors exported to the USA accounted for. One of the original Doe's is confirmed to have been totally destroyed in a fire in the 70's in South Dakota. Another of the original Doe tractors imported into the USA as a new tractor was separated and made back into two tractors. Some Doe's have filtered into the USA from Canada as used tractors over the years. Thanks for sharing your expertise with these units with us. I have visited with the sole distributor of the Doe Triple D in the United States. He was in his late 80's at the time several years ago and residing in eastern South Dakota.

  • I enjoyed the article. I would appreciate contact for Mr. Dye as I am in the Middle of restoring a U.K. built Ford 4000 3 cylinder diesel and thought he may have ideas for part sources as the U.S. dealers have been next to useless so far. Thanks!

  • Iv'e had my share of Tripple D's and Doe 130's working for Cleales of Haverhill Suffolk in the mid to late 60's. I was apprenticed to them as an agri/engineer working on the likes of Roadless,Counties, wheeled and crawlers and Muir Hills. Due to the coming of on farm mechanics and reliable machines, Dealers fell into decline and i left the trade and joined the RAF. I still miss it though. I always remember trying to get the cylinder head off of a International TD6, we had hung 4 inches off the ground on the overhead gantry by it's head and every time someone walked past they would spray the studs with Plus-Gas. Three days later we were sitting having our morning coffee when the building shook and the cylinder head was catapaulted through the skylight. Memories.

  • Good read Brian, I actually started work in 1965 for Ernest Doe & Sons in the Doe 130 manufacturing facility. I went on to become a field service engineer and still am to this day althouigh now running my own business in Western Australia. I would love to get a Doe tractor but have never seen one out here.

Today's Featured Article - Madison's County - by Anthony West. Philip Madison has been a good friend of mine for quite some time. He has patiently suffered my incessant chit chat on the subject of tractors for longer than I care to remember, and on many occasions he has put himself out, dropped what ever it was he was doing, to come and lend a hand cranking handles, or loading a find onto a trailer. Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects. ... [Read Article]
