  • Being another tractor wife, I really enjoyed your article, and especially the tips for husbands. We have had so many fun experiences while looking for tractors that it's made me think of submitting several of our own. Great article!

  • My wife and I really enjoyed this article and would like to see more "Women and Tractors" as a regular article in this magazine.
Mike Leggett wrote on Sunday, April 02, 2000 (PDT):
  • That was a fabulous article, very entertaining and the tips were very inciteful. It's good to see women enjoying the same hobbies as men, after all it's easier to get another tractor if your wife thinks it's for her.

  • I enjoyed the article, but I only counted eight tips to a happy life! What happened to the other two?
Ellen wrote on Wednesday, April 05, 2000 (PDT):
  • What fun to read your tractor adventures. Since you're my sister, I know you don't weigh much more than 100 lbs. (give or take a few). How about smackin'Ben (just a touch!)for thinking you could hold down the front of the tractor! That's hilarious. love ya!

  • Thanks for a very well written and highly entertaining article. You have a gift for writing and ought to submit this to a publisher like Reimann(sp?) publications. They publish many country life and farm life magazines and may pay you for your great work. Thanks again, I really enjoyed the story.

  • I very thoroughly enjoyed this series of accounts. It's heartening to read of a woman that is excited to aquire an old piece of equipment herself and has the interest to do the restoration. I've just moved from Maine back to Delaware and am about to erect a 5,000 sq. ft. storage/shop building 800 ft. into the woods and build my accomodations within on the second floor level. I'll be near my love of the old stuff. Now I'm a single gent of 53 with a love of old stuff (more than 7; 18 wheeler loads from Maine) and an unconventional involvement in art. I'm a non-smoker and non-drinker and if any unattatched gals wish to write I'm always pleased to have new friends, especially a lady. I didn't mean for this to sound as an ad but it helps to search where you're likely to find your goal. Besides the article spurred my thinking. And let's have other ladies write their accounts like these. Thanks

  • I thought this was great. Boy does it recall memories. I love the top ten (8), they are all so very true. I just bought my husband a tractor. It felt great to be able to do such a wonderful thing, that he so much enjoys working with. Buying a great big tractor. It is like giving a piece of candy to a young child, the smile on his face. He also restores, and like your husband I want to help, until I goof up or just don't understand. So Ben, just standing and giving company is great too. Keep writing it is a pleasure to read. Thank you for the smile.

  • What a wonderful article! The old saying,"You can't take the farm out of the boy" should be revised to add "girl" also. It's refreshing to read of a couple that enjoy a like hobby and love. I will show this article to my fiancee! She has been a great joy and help in my searches and endeavors with my tractors, too. Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading more articles.

  • Great stories!! And oh how true!! Ever wonder why after vowing every time that we will never go and help again because he screaming and cussed that we still do? I guess it's because we just can't resist that, "Honey, I really need you, it'll only take a minute and I PROMISE not to hollor this time"!!! It's great to know there are other wifes out there who go through the same thing!!

Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract. ... [Read Article]
