  • Great piece! I like Fords and IHs. I've long thought that the Jubilee was a sharp tractor, and I hope to have one of my own someday.

  • A nice tribute Troy and a great looking tractor!

  • You should consider using your tractor more. It is made to be used and the delight in seeing a job well done by such an old tractor will speak well of the original designersand your brothers restoration. These Fords stack up very well against their modern counterparts.
Alan Esch wrote on Wednesday, March 01, 2000 (PST):
  • Great story and a good looking tractor too! I can only imagine how bad you felt when you first saw it apart, but what a happy ending. Hats off to your brothers.
Dave Streeter wrote on Thursday, March 02, 2000 (PST):
  • Come on! Get that Jubilee back to work. It was never meant to be a show toy. In 1953, my dad bought a Jubilee to replace the "48 8n which had seen better days. The Jubilee is now in Graybull, Wyoming with my youngest brother and is still working. It has nicks & dents from 47 years of use, has been overhauled at least once but still does whatever it's asked to do. Pretty is OK, but honest is better. If you don't use it as it was intended to be used, you're missing an experience.

  • Inspiring article! I am currently in the middle of restoration of my 1954 NAA. It has been a long, slow process and like you, I've had moments of frustration. I hope it will be finished by next month. I too think that the Golden Jubilee/NAA is one of the greatest tractors ever produced and a compliment to American Industrialism.
Bill wrote on Friday, March 17, 2000 (PST):
  • A great job! Every one should have brothers like yours! You are a lucky guy. I will bet that made up for a lot of sibling riverly inpast years
Matt Clark wrote on Friday, March 17, 2000 (PST):

  • I bought a 1955 Golden Jubilee with a Sherman Backhoe and Ford loader attached, many years ago. It will always be remembered as the best tractor I ever owned. I've owned 11 tractors.
Wayne Baker wrote on Monday, March 20, 2000 (PST):
  • Enjoyed the article. I have a 53 Jubilee that my father purchased when I was 6 years old. I remember going with him to look at it before he purchased it. It was what I learned to drive & I drove it extensively on the farm while working.I'm 49 now and have the tractor at my place. It holds a place in my heart and brings back many fond memories of working with my father, the sweet smell of hay when raking and some very hot hard days. I never plan to part with it. By the way, it was one of our main tractors on the farm & to my knowledge, has never been rebuilt. It still runs like a top! Thanks for fixing this one up!

  • During about 20 years of restoring cars and motorcycles I have heard many horror stories of restorations gone bad in one way or the other. It is great to hear about your experience,it shows that there is a positive side. You have both some great friends and a sharp tractor!!Both things to be proud of. Thanks for sharing your story. ps; dont let that tractor sit too much, take it out and run it,keep the seals lubed and the oil circulated. My 47 oliver rc70 gets out just as often as it can and runs like new.Maybe one day it too will look like new!
Jim Paddock, Mukwonago, Wis wrote on Tuesday, March 28, 2000 (PST):
  • Being born and raised on a farm near Elkhorn, Wis., I can understand you feeling about the tractor. Your Brothers did an outstanding job on restoring. I would say that you were pretty lucky to have them in your family.
David Fairbanks wrote on Wednesday, March 29, 2000 (PST):
  • I enjoyed reading the story, and I hope that someday I will have enough cash to restore my '54 NAA to pristine condition. Looks Great! Dave

  • What pleasant memories this story and fabulous picture brought back to me. I grew up farming my Dad's farm with a Ford Golden Jubilee. I guess I'll never get over that tractor. I own a Ford 850 now because it is the closest thing I could find at the time to the Jubilee. Troy, your story had added meaning to me in that I just moved from Richmond, KY (only a few miles from Irvine) to Lake Charles, LA to pastor a church down here. I miss the beauty of "MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME"! Great article--I printed it and have it displayed in my "tractor room"!
Craig Tellman wrote on Thursday, March 30, 2000 (PST):
  • I really enjoyed your article. I'm the proud owner of a 1948 ford 8N. I've recently have had it rebuilt it's primarily used for light work on my 51 acre farm in Hart Co. KY. I'm sure you'll agree there's a passion at hand.
Michael Ayer wrote on Thursday, March 30, 2000 (PST):
  • Don't let it sit, the more you use it the better it runs. We use are Ford almost daily for light ranch work in Colo. My 8-N does not look as nice as yours, but I sure love it. P.S. My daughter Emma says your tractor is beautiful!!!
Lee Stevens wrote on Monday, April 10, 2000 (PDT):
  • Before I read your great article, I was undecided about buying a new John Deere 790 or a 54 Jubilee that is for-sale about 20 miles from here. Thanks for bringing me to my senses. I'm buying the Jubilee. They don't make them like that anymore.

  • I have noticed that these comments posted are from a year ago so I will give some freshh input. I am 32 years yung and have managed to get one of these beauties of my own and also have it payed for thats one of the best parts. I like the little fords for the work they can do. Mine was sort of restored when I bought it with intentions to work it hard and did we have since moved and I now have the oppertunity to spend some time and money on it. And is now undergoing a face lift but will soon be back to work cutting CRP land up here in noth west Minnesota. So how about a little feed back or an update on your web site. We are all curious did you get to anymore shows?,did you put any substantial amout of hours on it?,we hope you have used it some. They are alot of fun and you sure as heck can't take it with you when you go. I posted this pic on my comp. wallpaper and periodicaly display it on my screen. Very nice indeed remember to update and post some more pics of the gem!! From one Jubilee lover to another have a great time!!! Neil...

  • Nice story. Very cool of your brothers to set you up with a new/old tractor. Retired ??????? A wonderful old Ford tractor like that...That's just not right. These old Fords are natural born workhorses. I've used a '52 8N for 17yrs. which I finally wore out a '41 9N for a year and now have a '47 8N that's a real sweetheart and just purchased a '53 Jubilee that I think will be a great machine also. They're made to work and are darn good at it. Mine mow, brush hog the rough places, pull my old trailer for firewood and plow snow in the winter. Don't know what I'd do on my 47 acres without them. Congratulations on having a beautiful machine....now put it back to work like it should be.

  • I will be purchasing my Golden Jubilee this afternoon, your article and comments made up my mind. By the way, I am a 65 year old FEMALE.
Anne T. Underwood wrote on Wednesday, November 05, 2003 (PST):
  • This is an update from my earlier comments. The Ford Jubilee has worked out just like I wanted it to. We have bush hogged, box bladed, rock raked and spread. The Jubilee did it all. Plans have already been made for complete restoration within the month. Again, thanks for your comments that swayed my choice for my tractor. Anne
Terry Smith wrote on Wednesday, December 03, 2003 (PST):
  • Hi I too am about to be 41 years of age as well here in January..Hey I saw your add about your 53 jubilee and have to say the tractor is very impresive. I don't know wheather or not i could ever have that much faith in my brothers..Years ago when I was going through my devorice from my first marrage...I needed a hoby or just anything constructive to keep me from wanting to kill her..LOL just joking. NOW!!!!!! I had just purchased 18.3 acres of land in the country and I had been using one of my dads many old ford 8n's he had used for a landscaping buisiness he had for ever..He kept telling me about this tractor that sat over this bank at the end of this road near a bunch of old cars...I was like yeah right dad...I said that thing has been there as long as I can remember..And he said yeah soooo... So I just stoped one day to look it over..I was acctually very impressed that it haden't been shot up by hunters.. I bought the tractor because I had a good job and really did need to occupy my mind..So i bought it 500.00 bucks Tractor plow disc bush-hog..It had the bush hog hooked to the pto...It had been so long sitting there, that i had to take the ptp shaft out and press the mower spline off the the tractors pto..Needless to say I also replaced the pto shaft with one my dad had whitch was a little shorter and had no midway area for a bearing to ride..I was one for a 8n but has been in the tractor now for many years..The tractor said it only had 712 hours on it..It sat in the ground 6 inchs or more..The rear rims where rotted and flat..Here i am going on and one..Anyways i stumbled opon your tractor because I have been ordering different parts to do some fixing after 15 years of use or so..I am a big fan of the classic kasaki motorcycles also..I just needed a tractor for all my land to be kept mowed..And the wood because we burn wood here in upstate New York to stay warm..I bought 2 of the 1974 H2 750 triple twostroke bikes...Do you remember them?...He y thanks for reading my story..Drop me a e-mail anytime..I am so lucky to have a understanding wife???... Take care..

  • I was very impressed when I read your article. I am 49 years old. My wifes grandfather and father both owned 8n and Jubilee tractors. So in 2002 I just had to buy a jubilee too. It is my pride and joy just like yours. We live on the property where my wifes grandfather used his tractor, so that makes it even more special for us. Love your Jubilee. It's something to be proud of.
Cathi wrote on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 (PDT):
  • What a cool story not only about the tractor but about the bond between brothers.
Ben Jetton wrote on Saturday, August 06, 2005 (PDT):
  • I liked your story. My Jubilee ony has 2400 hours on it, and my Mom bought it when she was 94 to have a tractor around the farm. I had it painted with new rims, rubber and a seat for the 4th of July this year and it turned out great. An old guy even came up and identified himself as the salesman who originally sold it from the Ford car agency. I like your idea of 12 volting it in the original case.

  • Your Jubilee looks great. My dad has one I've been trying to buy from him for years. It doesn't look as good as yours but maybe someday. It's been through afire and is locked up right now.
Van Addison Estes wrote on Saturday, December 10, 2005 (PST):
  • Troy, We may be cousins, my grandfather Rufus Addison Estes came from Kentucky to south Louisiana to farm rice. I have 3 sisters, so no chance of the same restoration your brothers did on your Jubilee. I just got my '54 NAA this Thanksgiving. My wife tells every one that I bought a lawn ornament! But that's ok, I am really enjoying using the little tractor on the farm. One day I may have it looking like yours. Enjoyed your post! Cousin??, Van
Jack wrote on Friday, August 25, 2006 (PDT):
  • That is a great job that your brothers did on the tractor. You need to use the tractor to keep it running good. Have done one IH and working on the second one. I use mine after the restoration.

Today's Featured Article - Fire in the Field A hay fire is no laughing matter-well, maybe one was! And a good life-lesson, too. Following World War II many farm boys returned home both older and wiser. One such man was my employer the summer I was sixteen. He was a farmer by birth and a farmer by choice, and like many returning soldiers, he was our silent hero: without medals or decorations, but with a certain ability to survive. It was on his farm that I learned to use the combination hand clutch and brake on a John D ... [Read Article]
