Bill, I would recommend a GE top loader, GLWN2800D1WS. Love it. It's like the old school machines, you set water lever, mechanical timer, no locking lids, no water sensors, does a load in half the time of a whirlpool. Go on line and find the best price. Look the the G_ _ _ 2800D1WS. It's a 3.9 cubic feet stainless steel tub. We got ours at Lowes because Lowes price matches, 5% off with Lowes credit card, 10% off for vets. The regualar price is $550. Around Christmas, Home Depot had a sale for $500. Lowes price matched and gave another 10%, so we saved $100 at lowes. Plus the extended waranty at Lowes was only $99 at Sears it was like $159.
Stay away from whirlpools and all other machines that are made like the whirlpool. Just ask the sales people if what you are getting is made by the new whirlpool people. I was told that 4 years ago their was a big change.
