I heard about GM babbit bearing problems back in the 40-50's area. One day I was surfing and found the metallic composition of current inserts/mains and compared them to what I could find on the word babbit and the materials were identical.
Did I miss something?
I did have an acquaintance who had a dad who fixed his chevy OHV 6 rod bearing with a piece of leather....course that was back when times were tough and HP was not all that much. He didn't say how long it lasted.
