If I say this enough, maybe it will start registering with people:
If this is a "money grab" it is the worst-run money grab in the history of man. The state would be money ahead just handing each truck driver a $50 bill as they drove through. What they collect from the few trucks they fine doesn't even pay the salaries of the troopers on site, let alone the equipment costs, the vehicle costs, the backoffice costs, the court costs, and on and on and on...
How many trucks that are inspected really get fined? jimg.allentown complained that they found a loose bolt on the 5th wheel, and it cost him $25 to get it fixed. Sounds like he got off easy to me. They could have slapped him with a big fine and put him out of service. Sure the repair truck was "convenient" but would he rather wait? Seems to me that the troopers were really trying to help out in that instance, by having a repair truck on site to deal with issues rather than writing up fines and putting trucks out of service for minor infractions and honest oversights.
