Extra cops are not really extra. Here in PA, all of the state cops are DOT trained. Just offered them a little overtime, and free donuts, and there they are. Unfortunately, the whole DOT thing is not about safety. It's about MONEY. How does it make the road safer to take hundred dollar bills away from a working man over a marker light? And if the guy's brakes are not up to snuff, how is it safe to fine him and then send him down the road? Then when the livestock hauler comes along. he gets flagged through - because the cops don't want to get dirty inspecting him! Once in Virginia, I was stopped at a scale and told that I had a loose bolt on my 5th wheel. Conveniently, there was a repair truck there who was happy to tighten the bolt for $25. Funny, they could not find anything else wrong. Then in Tennessee, the cop checks your brake adjustment with a 9/16 wrench. Nothing more than a money racket.
