You will have no problems with the 5 speed if you never tow in overdrive . But like on my truck with 4.10 gears if the pump was still at stock setting that meant that 56 MPH was the fastest you could go flat on the floor in 4th gear. The way they designed overdrive was one of the stupidest designed set ups along with a rev. gear that is way to fast for trailer backing . And it tells ya in the owners manual and on the sun visor to not tow in 5th - overdrive . But if you are like my one friend that still dose it and has taken out four clutches and three transmission in under 200000 miles then yes there is a problem . IMHO with a Dodge and a Cummins the best set up is one with 3.54 gears and a six speed . With the socalled 5 speed it reall is a 4 speed that is useable with a over drive that is not. And 4.10 gears plum suck on and engine set up that has limited RPM range . Here again IMHO the best set up would have been and 8 speed and rear gears that would complement the torque range of the engine and a rear end that would allow for a better road speed . And thus let the engine work in it's operating range of 1450- 2650 . They really do not build them to use then they just built to sell .
