I would second Astrostart, also Autostart/Polar Start are also good brands. Stay away from some of the really cheapie ones, Bulldog security is a good example of one to stay away from.
I install many of them this time of year, they are ProStart but are made by the same company that makes the Autostart brand. They are only available in Canada through Canadian Tire. They have proven to be very reliable. There are too many units available to really tell you the best, I can just go on experience. The biggest thing is to make sure whomever is installing it has done many of them so that they are familiar with the brand and are comfortable programming all the features etc. The worst thing is to try to install a unit that you are not familiar with, it increases the time for install and potentially causes problems.
Also, depending on what year her Altima is it may also need a security system bypass to remote start. If you post the year I can look that up for you.
If installed correctly the vehicle should not start if the gear lever is not in either park or neutral. As far as manual transmission vehicles, I don't do 'em, too much to go wrong. The run time is usually programmable, many units have a 15 minute run time as default. If the vehicle has power door locks but not keyless entry you can also add that functionality.

It was on his farm that I learned to use the combination hand clutch and brake on a John D
