Don't rightly know, but one of my wife's brothers had an aftermarket unit installed on his pickup.
He had a detached garage, and one cold morning, he reached out the front door of his house and hit the remote start button. Apparently the shifter on the pickup hadn't completely clicked from "Reverse" into "Park". Anyway, the pickup started up and backed out through the garage door. Stalled against a light pole across the street.
I would assume a factory installed unit would have safeguards against that.
