On a different thread, there was discussion about govt regulation and a CNN article today highlighted a company discontinuing a metal magnetic ball product because some kids have swallowed them and required surgery. The company did this as a result of a CPSC lawsuit, though they maintain their product is not marketed to kids.
I happened to look at the CPSC website and find that there is a recall on these bifold doors (see link). I have used these products a lot in my homes and, yes, the pivot pins have worn out or broken over time causing the doors to come off the track. Once, I do recall one falling forward a little where I simply put out my hand and stopped it. No big deal. I replace the pin and I chalk that up to "home maintenance" and appreciate that JenWeld makes a product that I can afford instead of one that is made of solid steel, is bulletproof with ball bearing shafts, made to last 1000 years and costs 10 times as much. But somebody must have got bumped on the head and raised a stink. I'm sure prices on these doors will now go up.
