it always amazed me that someone could get those crazy things to the sale barn at all! couldnt do it nowdays, but what they would do was they had a club weighted with lead. if an individual bought one and wanted it detusked/toothed (whatever you call it) they would run it down a narrow chute, hit him between the eyes and either knock it out or stun it then cut the tusks off with bolt cutters.Supposedly that tamed them down some if they didnt have tusks(yea right).nearly all the really mean ones went straight into wilsons packing plant that was right accross the road.they would run a chute accross the road and run them straight,into the kill floor.several times two old hogs would go through the board pens and go after each other,what a bloody fight that was, and you couldnt do much but stand and watch.like i say i never was around them much,since we didnt raise them, but i dont know how you could keep them as mean as those were.of course that may have been why they were at the sale barn, simply because they had got so mean you couldnt keep them.
