One thing you want to check is how it is timed. There will be a mark on the rim of the flywheel, on the outside face of the rim. Roll the engine over slowly and see when the mag snaps, the impulse for starting at low rpm. The mark on the flywheel should line up with the mark on the cover behind the flywheel. Should be @ 12:00 position. If it is not in this location whel rolling the engine over slowly the mag is out of time. If it is in time then check the valve clearances and the fuel pick up tube. That is, as long as you have good strong spark. The fuel mixer is very finiky on these engines. Just a 1/4 turn one way or the other will either flood the engine or not be enough fuel. They are good runners once things are set right.
