As I answer this, I"ve got a Wisconsin TH/THD/ TJD shop manual in front of me. Max RPM of a model TH is 2600 RPM. For THD/TJD it"s listed at 18 horsepower at 3200 RPM. The chart does go to 3600 RPM, but horsepower drops after 3200. There are also "Specs" for barometric pressure, and altitude above sea level. "Allow 1% loss of power for each 1000 feet above sea level. ALSO:"For contionous use", "Deduct 20% of horse power as a safety factor". 20% of 18 is 3.6, so if you consider a generator as contionous, then rate the engine at 14.4 horsepower. I"ve got a THD on a 5KW generator and run the engine at 2400 RPM, where the book says it has 15.2 HP, (I don"t worry about altitude), and it does just fine with an Onan belt driven generator. I"ve always considered Wisconsins as low speed high torque engines and would never consider running one over 3000 RPM.Just pick a pulley combination to get your required speed.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
