It seems that spammers using spambots to steal forum accounts, is getting to be big business. Spambots obtain a username list from the member list and from just using a program to read posts. Then they take that list and try all the probable passwords against it. This includes common words for the subject matter. At YT, that means passwords like farmall, tractor etc. They always test whether the password is the same as the username too.
If you have a password like that, or even dictionary words, you need to log into Modern View and click on profile, then set the password to a mix of alpha and numeric. Make it random, fairly long, and then write it down since it's hard to remember that sort of thing.
Many of the password requests I get nowadays are due to poor choices in passwords. They get compromised constantly. This isn't just for YT, any well known site seems to be getting tested this way.
If you are wondering why they do it, it's to attempt to post spam using what they assume is an approved and well known username. That doesn't work too well since no usernames can easily post spam. But they still make the username unusable when they do it.
