I have a JD 2040 that has a new electrical harness and battery. It usually starts right up but it started taking longer to start each time. It has gotten to the point that it runs the battery down before it starts (I think I have ruined the battery). I have checked the fuel lines by the cylinders and it is squirting out fuel so it looks like that is not the problem. My brother thinks it is not turning over fast enough to start it and in away I think that to but kinda different. Here is what I mean. I do not think it is the starter (seems to be turning over just as fast as when it started fine) I think it has to do with some compression issue, 'cause when we pull start it and it turns over really fast it starts, maybe that is because it doesn't have time not to compress. Maybe? and when it turns over with the starter (that is obviously slower) it wont start 'cause is has time not to compress. I don't know if this makes sense or not but it seems logical. Does anybody know how to check compression? I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks!
