Over the years I have learned the cheapest and easiest way to check if the point are good baring any shorts if to remove the ignition side wire off the coil then turn the switch on and touch the wire to the coil with the points closed. If you have a spark the points are good or you have a short if no spark the points need to be worked on. No test light needed no tools for the most part needed and it works 99% of the time. You know I do not even own a test light and my meter almost never goes to the shop and you know I know how to work more then just the common run of the mill cheap meter
