Hi, I have a small auto-lite 6 volt generator that was apart when I got it, the field wire had broken off the field post/screw. I soldered the wire back on the screw connected the brushes and reassembled the generator, when I installed it on the engine and started it it started generating but at a high idle it is putting out more than 10 amps and at half throttle it is at 20+ amps this is a 13 amp generator. Adjusting the sliding brush has no effect my question is could I have the brushes connected wrong? I have the wire that goes from the brush to the cutout connect to the sliding brush and the field wire connected to the other brush this looked like the way the wires came off but like I said it was apart when I got it. Any help will be appreciated.
