I agree with Gary, the DC will make great HP but the block has its limitations, we solved the rear main issues but the center main saddle will also pull out of the block as well. The 400 has a 5 main engine and vastly better gear selection. The big stroke big bore Case blocks are just now being developed by builders like Gary. Strokes of over 7" are the norm and the later engines can hold near 200 more cubes than a D series block.
Dollar for dollar the later engines just make more sense.
BTW, Doug is a great friend and we have no competetion between us, we share info via phone regularly and I have personally visited his place and seen his stable of tractors. Our associations back East here allow for more lax rules using speed limits rather than RPM limits which allow for some design differences. We just take advantage of the rules we are given to work under.
