Original mention of low first gear said... a little over 1 mph... not under...? Can't tell you about IH creepers but Deere 80 series creepers are about 1-3/4 mph vs. standard first at about 2-1/2 mph. Lower gearing = more mechanical advantage = more torque... which can be useful if you can keep your rubber glued to the ground. In this Deere case, creepers will give you about 40% more torque than standard first gear. And creepers will give twice as much rear wheel torque than the 3-1/2 mph 2nd gear.
Lower gears are the cats meow for dead sled pulling.
