here is a link to rod nh 's paint code list. he did an excellent job on this. as far as what is the best paint out there, its like tool brands, tractor brands, taste in wimmens ect. use a good quality automotive paint. you can either use a single stage urethane, or a base coat/clear coat system. at mybody shop we use diamont base clear. napa's cross fire line of single stage is a very good paint at a decent price. ppg makes a good product also. preparation is 90 percent of a quality and long lasting paint job. best advise i can give you , what ever paint line you choose, stick with all the products in their line, at least until you gain experience and know whose stuff is compatible with whose. by using primers, reducers, hardners, prep products from the same line, it is all desined to work together, that way if you have a problem, its a lot easier to figure out what went wrong, and how to correct it.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
