That is correct, ground black negative to part being cleaned and red positive to sacrificial metal for which I used lengths of rebar tied together with baling wire in a grid pattern and laid it in the bottom of pool. The piece across top of pool is a scrap piece of wooden plank to hang whatever piece I am cleaning and keep it away from and shorting to rebar. Used some baling wire to hang it from the wood and than attached negative side to wire. I used Arm and Hammer Washing Soda only. Lye is not needed but you can use it also to remove paint quicker. Just be cautious as it can burn you if it gets on your skin or blind, if it gets in your eyes. I chose not to take that risk if not needed. Pool is holding about 70 gallons of water and I stirred in enough washing soda to bring my amperage up to 13 amps. Took about 3 cups. I also have since added a car battery in line with the setup. Not needed but helps prevent feedback from charger.
