I've got a roof Palomino. It looks like a mini-jeep I'm posting some photos of it on the "garden tractor web page" at:http://www.jacques.lacasse.com/GardenTractor/Photos/GT_Photos.htm I sent in some stuff from the original ad copy my father-in-law had from when it was new in 1968, but I haven't seen it posted yet. I'll try again and I'll send some photos to this site too. I didn't even think of it in terms of being a collector's item, it's just a good reliable mower, which happens to nearly cause accidents because of the serious double-takes of people driving by when I'm mowing. Since I found out people are interested, It got me curious. The Roof Mfg. Co. was in Pontiac IL. I found a local (Pontiac, IL) web site and posted some inquiries and got a couple of interesting responses. The Roof Co. started mfg. other things, (truck lift gates?) and then sold out in the 80s or early 90s but the factory is still there and some of the locals worked for roof. I guess there are a couple of stories regarding the mini-jeep mower. One says that one of the son's of the owner was in Viet Nam and came home and designed a mower that looks like a jeep?!?! I'm still planning on finding out the real story. I'd also like to eventually restore mine so it's all stock. I've dismantled the blade clutch, so it's always on now and I've got a non-stock muffler and a couple of other odd things. It's on its third engine, but otherwise it's in great shape. Feel free to contact me, I'll continue to investigate in the meantime.
