Sounds like transmission shaft splines are shot.You will have to pull motor and over and under unit as shaft will have to come out the front.You have some work ahead of you.Not bad if you have hoist and proper snap ring pliers but fuel tank steering and dash assy. shifter etc. have to come off to make working room.The biggest thing you need is book to make sure shaft oil collector and teflon rings are in the right order.Not and easy job to talk you through.Scott
