stock valve sizes: 88 intake-1.344, exhaust 1.156 super88 intake-1.5,exhaust early-1.312,late 1.156 880-1600 intake 1.5, exhaust 1.156 The early supers had some hard starting issues, that is why they went back to the smaller exhaust valve. I think a good set of valve seat set at the right spec would've cured this problem. Not sure either why they used such small valves, but try to remember that an 88 was a big tractor in its day and 45-55 hp was pretty impressive. Especially for the guys that recently still used horses.
