I will almost bet if you clean up the points or replace them set the gap at 0.015 and put say a tablespoon of ATF in the cylinders before you pull the distributor it will fire up after you install the distributor. Reason for the ATF is to free up the rings and to improve the compression. Oh by the way drain the carb and make sure you get a good steady flow of gas out the drain plug
