You ask someone what the horse power is of an 8N tractor. You get a reply like 'At what point are you talking about?' Here what I copied from another page: Drawbar (claimed): 23.16 hp [17.3 kW] PTO (claimed): 27.32 hp [20.4 kW] Drawbar (tested): 21.95 hp [16.4 kW] PTO (tested): 23.24 hp [17.3 kW] Belt (tested): 25.77 hp When I go buy a lawn mower I can buy the cheaper 3hp or pay a little more and buy the 5hp. No questing like will if you want self propelled it has less horse power even thought there the same motor. I got my new Hercules motor in Friday. It says on the tag it's Horse Power is B.H.P. 29.6 Did a little research and found, 1) "Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower before the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as power steering pump, muffled exhaust system, etc. 2) One boiler horsepower unit, or (BHP), is equal to a boiler thermal output of 33,475 Btu/h (9.811 kW), which is the energy rate needed to evaporate 34.5 lb (15.65 kg) of water at 212 °F (100 °C) in one hour. The unit is not current outside of North America. Seems it make a difference if the letters are Capital or lower case. Mine are Capital. So what would the B.H.P. and /or the b.h.p. of an 8N be?
