WJ, I have taken apart a solenoid on my 2N. I had trouble with it contacting and starting consistently. It must have been the original because the contacts were made of copper. The actual mechanism was not exactly precision fitting. It consisted of a copper disc being pushed into two contacts which carried current to the starter. With that being said, maybe it "slipped a disc" and is making constant contact. Maybe this will help explain your situation. I reassembled the solenoid and it works like a charm. Mr. T. Minnesota
