you can play with the mounting scheme and the brackets, and belt length a lil bit.. many times mounting the alt out wider, with as samll as a belt as you can get by with is the easiest.
in the end.. if that don't work, install an idler pulley.
you can get a pulley with sealed bearing at tractor supply off the shelf. then use some set key rod stops and some bolt hardware and rig it up so that you have an idler pulley under the alt. I had to do this with a 2n i have. pretty slick, works good.. cheap.. takes like 10m to install, and no more crease worn into the dizzy.
i stuck the long bolt thru the lower alt ear thru the mount tabs.. lined up perfectly using a couple washers and the set screw stop/spacers.
