Ken(Ark) said: (quoted from post at 14:51:13 04/16/10) The family has about 100 acres here and about 1/2 needs mowed . My Great Aunt who passed away last summer was the caretaker of the cows and getting the place bush hogged .
She believed it needed done once every fall . It is my job now and I am trying to get all of the weeds , briers , etc cut down . I keep at it on a weekly basis which is doing wonders so far .
The problem is 50 acres with a 5' hog is killing me . The undesirable stuff is still small and tender which cuts easily so I would like to get a big finish mower . Power does not seem to be an issue .
If the grass is thick I can use the 5' bush hog but for light cutting in the spring I need to be able to cover a lot of area . I can modify / weld a finish mower setting to cut 9" - 12" which should let the grass grow but stop the tall weeds and bushes .
What is the biggest finish mower that an N will pull ?
All input welcome and Thanks in Advance - Ken(Ark)
For that much acreage on a weekly basis I'd suggest you consider a much bigger mower and a more powerful tractor. An 8N is going to max out both 3pt lift capacity and HP wise at or very near 6'. A 10' mower is going to need close to 50HP to spin it and weigh in around 1500#
