I just put new brakes on my 8N. I put new shoes on because I could only adjust one side and figured if I was tearing into them I might as well fix them while I was there. When I took the right drum off, I noticed that the last guy that had put shoes on had put the adjusting screw on upside down. There was absolutely no way to adjust the brakes on that side without inverting the adjustment rod which I did when I put the new shoes on. You could not reach the wheel through the slot. Getting the drum off was another matter. If you don't own an impact driver, you might as well find one before you start if you have not had the drums off recently.I had to pound on mine so hard I bent the impact driver. Also a little rust free would help. When you put the 4 drum screws back on, try some anti-seize for future benefit. Another little trick if you do put shoes on, is to block up under the left brake pedal to keep the linkage in the correct position. Since there is no spring, it will drop down and you are trying to put shoes on with them activated and the springs are STRONG.
