This is a timely subject. I just took my bottom cover-bolt out and gear oil ran out. But looking in there with a light proved the gear oil level was an inch BELOW the hole.... There's about a 1-inch stub or nipple that makes up that lower bolt and it holds oil that is "slung" up there by the gears. I added about 2 quarts before the fluid level was up where it should be. (Small drip at lower lift arms for the last two years. I know. I know. But some fool has brazed the lift-arm bolts to the case, probably to stop a leak he didn't understand.)
