What sealant, if any, do you guys use on fuel line fittings? Is Teflon tape OK?
Here's the background: Yesterday, the 2N finally ran out of gas. Turned the valve to reserve, and it was no help (I've since searched here and learned that it's common for the reserve inlet to be clogged). I pulled the carb elbow fitting to check the screen there, and surprise! No screen! So I have to get part 9N9553 and install it, which is where the sealant comes in.
I also checked the sediment bowl screen, which was clean. After reassembly, I confirmed it was the reserve inlet in the tank by turning the gas valve back to "Main" on position. With the tractor stationary, it filled the sediment bowl about 2/3 full. Turned it full out, and no additional fuel ran into the sediment bowl.
The good news is that this tractor is only used for dragging a horse arena, and we were able to get enough fuel to get it out of the arena running on choke. Turns out the owner didn't have any gas on hand to refill it with. I'm gonna have to get after her on that!

It was on his farm that I learned to use the combination hand clutch and brake on a John D
